Yoga Therapy
The Journey towards increased Joy and Quality of Life
Yoga Therapy is the professional application of the principles and practices of yoga to promote health and wellbeing within a therapeutic relationship that includes personalised assessment, goal setting, lifestyle management and yoga practices for individuals or small groups.
- The International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT)
What is It
Yoga therapy undertakes a holistic view of the person, utilising yogic models to assess and identify both areas of strength and imbalance, in all layers (koshas) of being.
It applies yoga practices to support your journey towards wellness.
The aim is to improve where possible, and sustain, health and wellbeing, but most importantly perhaps provide tools to manage your condition.
It can address a variety of conditions and issues, ranging from musculoskeletal issues, to digestive conditions and mental health problems. This can be in addition to existing treatment you may be receiving through the NHS or privately or it could be the sole intervention.
Yoga therapy may be used to:
-
reduce symptoms of illness or injury
-
establish more functional breath and movement patterns
-
reduce physical and mental suffering
-
improve quality of life

"Yoga Therapy has helped me address a number of issues, some of which came up unexpectedly for me. Jo has an excellent way of teaching and I was able to talk about emotional issues which came up which I thought I had already dealt with"
